View Full Version : Hitting HRs?

Well, just hitting in general. I don't know what the heck is happening but I'm going through what is now about a 20-30 game streak where hitting is just...ridiculous.
I only score about 3-4 runs a game now and my AVG has completely plummeted from over .480 to a little bit over .390. I have not hit a HR in what seems like 10-15 games and my offense is just so terrible right now.
My batters are no where even near good; they're the cream of the crop. I have Braun, Cano, Granderson, and a ton of other supreme batters that are all Special and above (most of them are Platinum), and my batting timing has never been too bad. Compared to some stats I've seen here, I'm definitely not the best, but this is just....completely bad.
Has anyone else went through a really long cold streak (even with a really good team)?

Yup, my lineup has special/hero/platinums bautista, howard, pujols, fielder, soriano, braun. I go through streaks were I get shut out of hr's as well.
The hits are still there for me though, but no long balls for games on end it seems.

Yeah, it's just so frustrating.
I have guys with 100+/110+ POW, and even against the scrub pitchers, when I get a good hit with the little animation and sound of the bat hitting the ball, the balls just bounce off the wall for a normal 2B hit.
Meanwhile, my own stud pitchers are shutting out the opposing teams, and the only times they give up runs are ALWAYS HRs to batters with POW no more than 90.
Honestly, Granderson used to be leading HRs by a WIDE margin at the beginning of the season; he reached 20 with the next four or five batters also on my team around 15. The closest AI was at a meager 6 or 8 HRs. Right now, Granderson is STILL in the 20s in HRs with 26, and Choo (not on my team) is quickly catching up with 22. And while I had a good 6 or 7 batters on the top HR leaderboards, now I only have 3. Absolutely ridiculous.

Yep. Ever since I took over the Mariners to play in the AL, I can't hit JACK for homers, no pun intended. Haven't finished with a top ten player in HRs in each of two seasons. Yet with my Brewers team I was crushing 70 HRs per year with my Fielder, and 50+ with my Teixeira. Apparently, a Hero M Cabrera, Hero Guerrero, special Mark Reynolds, Rare Mauer, Plat Braun, Hero Chris Young, and Plat Rickie Weeks, all with POW over 98, aren't up to the task of hitting 30 home runs in a season. Weeks is on pace for that 40 games into my third season, but who knows how long he'll go on a slide for.

I'm in my third season right now, last season I hit 91 hrs with Ryan Zimmerman power 126. He has trainer, pull hit, and instinct. Wait for the right pitch, not just strikes but if you have a pull hitter wait for an inside pitch the opposite applies for push hitters. If you have killer ball wait for a fastball. For some reason I hit a lot of homeruns on inside sliders and not just with my pull hitters.

It seems like my guys are streaky as well, but I've noticed that if I stop playing for a bit then pick it up again I'm back on track. Since timing is so important if you're a little off then you might be screwing yourself over without even realizing it. Play through a few rounds of HR Derby on the highest speed, that'll reset your timing well enough :P

My Special Ryan Braun and Special Joe Votto currently leads homerun with 22 and 19.
Braun- Scorer, Pull hit, trainer
Votto - Instinct, Killer ball, Righty killer (Awesome combination)
while my plat Aubrey huff has 15 homeruns.
It can be quite random. I've had my Platinum SP Tim Lincecum and Platinum RP Sergio Romo hit homeruns before.

My goodness. What is this.
After hitting somewhere around 20-22 HRs in the first 15 games alone, I have finally just hit the 24th HR by my PLAT Granderson.....in the 72nd game. AND, the ball was no where near the strike count.
Well, it just feels good to have the HR drought over. (Hopefully....I'll play some more games later and update)

Yeah I'm currently in the middle of one of those ridiculous offensive droughts myself, where home runs are nonexistent, and my batting with RISP has been about .025. I've been averaging maybe 1000 points per game at the most, which is the most frustrating thing. I've been scratching out 2-1 wins, but if this drought wouldn't have happened, I'd have about 3x as many points to show for the last 15 games or so.

To put it into perspective, one of the games I walked away with zero cards to show for it...despite having card +13 between my coach and cheerleader cards :s

Ugh. I know what you mean.
I just carried a 0-0 game all the way into the 11th until I finally hit a run to win 1-0. Pathetic.
What's most frustrating is that the AI is hitting HRs with batters that have POWs as low as in the 70s off my pitchers who all have 100+ POW, while I can't get a HR to save my life.

Just had a 33 game winning streak snapped by a tie. I'm about 99% sure I didn't get a single hit in the last four innings, three of which were against their freaking normal closer. Even pinch hitting for lefty vs. right, righty vs. lefty matchups. :(

Huh, let me know if hitting HRs and stuff gets easier now. Maybe these droughts happen after prolonged winning streaks?
Cause I'm in the midst of a 70+ game winning streak and it's just gotten worse and worse, so I think this might be a possibility.

The scoring drought is over, but home runs aren't any easier to come by. My push hit hero Guerrero has 109 POW and has 8 home runs through about 250 ABs.

I honestly wonder if it has something to do with the team you use? I had no problems whatsoever hitting 30 homers per year with about four different guys when I had an all-Brewers team, but now that I'm using the Mariners I can't get a 30 home run guy to save my life, using the very best the game has to offer.

That's interesting, because I use the Angels who are in the same division.

The point I'm trying to make, is that maybe teams that are well known for slugging allow for better power numbers by the user. I don't think there is a single guy on the Mariners roster who has ever hit 30 homers in their career. Angels have decent sluggers like Vernon Wells and Bobby Abreu. It's not like the Rangers and Athletics are known for their stellar pitching. The only staff in the division that is any good is the Angels, but that doesn't matter much when a base hit = RISP thanks to their catcher.

UPDATE: After my winning streak got broken up a couple games ago, batting and hitting HRs has spiked ever since. Let me know if the same happened to you, Brew City, because mine sure has. I've scored at least 6 runs or more in all the games I've played since my winning streak was snapped. I really do believe that batting AVG and hitting HRs get affected the more you win.

Amazing. Ever since my winning streak was snapped, I'm on an offensive tear again. Hitting a good 3+ HRs a game now and I've got my sets on reclaiming the top HR spot again on the leaderboards with Granderson, Cano, or Braun. :D

i was going through the drought also and decided to try something i used my batters eye coach card +9 and my cheerleader batters eye card +5 and what a diffrence all around hitting homeruns and every thing else. all my batters eye stats are over 100 and most power is over 100 also

The reason is because EYE increases the probability of hitting the ball :p

Then what does CON do?

Where the ball gets hit to.

Opposite. CON stands for connect. There's exactly one place this is said but I can't remember where.

Why would "eagle eye" increase base hits if EYE isn't an indicator of base hits? Not that the correlation is iron clad, but eye generally indicates the batting average of a player, and CON indicates how likely your batter will hit a poorly thrown pitch that is out of the strike zone.
But, one thing I dislike about the game, is the inconsistency of ratings and actual performance. Let me pull up the stats. My Mauer has CON 93, EYE 93, batting .310 135 games into season. My Weeks has CON 77, EYE 67, and is batting .351. My Braun, with CON 114 and EYE 90? .331. Makes absolutely no sense to me. My leading batter is Vlad Guerrero with eagle eye, but EYE of only 77. CON is somewhere in the mid 80's as well. I honestly think eagle eye is one of the best abilities in the game, because it seems to make batters with normal EYE and CON ratings into beasts.

I see no association between CON and hitting ability. I have noticed that players with low EYE strike out more often (my 3 highest strikeout totals are ~10 points below my team average in EYE. Even so, those 3, along with my Pujols (92 EYE) are my best players BY FAR. (Plat. Penn w/ Slugger 75 EYE, Spec. Tulo w/ Eagle Eye 78 EYE, Norm. Choo w/ Instinct 80 EYE).

Yeah it is quite odd how things work out in this game. Another comparison, my hero Figgins vs. my Braun: 93/83/90 = .388/17/84 (batting leadoff the entire season) for Figgins, 114/98/90 = .338/15/83 for Braun, batting either fourth or sixth. There is simply no rational explanation for something like this, unless killer ball is adding .050 to Chone's BA. Even then Braun's instinct should give him the edge in RBI's, much less the fact that he's not a leadoff hitter.

Does anyone find it frustrating that you can take out stud pitchers in one or two innings, while your team struggles mightily against crap STARTING pitchers with an EDR in the 50s or 60s that last into the 8th inning against you.

i'm with you on this one it just happened to me i killer verlander in 2 innings then the next game i couldn't hit the ball out of the dang infield
Brew_City_Bashers

yeah a normal Penny just went 7 IP against me with 50 EDR, gave up one run. Had to be flashing for at least two innings, I just couldn't land the killer blow, which would be a single at that point.
It seems like it gets even harder to get hits off the computer when their stam is flashing. If my pitcher gets that low, it's home run derby, but when they do it's no hit city.
Edit: wow, just got 4 hit shut out by a normal pitcher from the Royals with 72/67/67. 67 power! Are you serious? Not sure what is worse, that, or the fact that they scored two runs off two singles and two errors made by my "B" first baseman :| Definitely not decided by the AI or anything.
