What elder scrolls game should i start with?

What elder scrolls game should i start with? What game is the start of the series? For example, if you wanted to get into the fallout game series you would start with fallout 3 not 1 or 2 because they have nothing to do with the main story and are pretty bad in my opinion.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is by far the best of the lot, but if you have never played any of them, I would start with Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion to get the feel of how to play, how the quests work, etc. Once you have played Oblivion for a while and want something better, you can graduate to Skyrim.
