View Full Version : Why Even Bother Partying?

Using the formula provided by GMs let's make a mock experiment with that formula. Four players go to a dungeon where the lowest exp a monster gives is 30 and the highest 60. Assuming all four are equally leveled then:

30*1.8*(10/35)
55*(.25)
54(.25)
13.5

So the monster starts at 30 but since the party consists of four his exp is now a whopping 54. But since it has to get divided by four people in reality everyone gets 13.5.

Why would you want a 13.5 with a party when you can get 30 all by yourself? Good question.

Say the stronger mobs are 60. Using the formula we get.
60*1.8*(.25)
108*(.25)
27

That sounds really bad doesn't it? I could have gotten 60, assuming Im correctly geared up. But with a party I only get a measly 27. Am I missing something here? It would seem I get rewarded more for soloing then partying!

Or so it would seem. Many people think that partying lowers your exp gain. And they are right! IF your teamates are not adequate help that is. If you are the one pulling around the weight chances are exp becomes bad.

Now if you went in a four party man group where everyoneis adequately prepared and you where to go to a heavy spawn site such as Woopas/Roopas you will realize that your exp actually has a faster growth.

I tried today a four man group in a heavy Woopa/Roopa spawn site. We where consistently dealing with them so quickly that spawn seemed to slow down and we kept moving deeper into spawn site. I noticed how my exp was quickly filling up and was surprised to say the least. Roopas are my level with Woopas being slightly lower level then me. I'm not sure about everyone levels but we where doing consistent kills.

So I guess partying is good with the following criterias:
a) All members are generally of equal level and power.
b) Members are efficient in their task and are correctly geared up for the hunt.
c) Members are in a heavy spawn site that quickly respawns monsters.
d) Team can consistently put out kills in a quick and efficient matter.
e) Members are self suffcient and reliable enough that they dot need healing constantly.

With those criterias and a good team with a balance of healing, tanking and dps capability partying is actually more rewarding then soloing given it is harder to solo in a fast spawn site unless of course you have uber armor ;)

i agree! partying is kinda pointless, UNLESS you need a certain item that is difficult to fight by yourself. Like if I needed woopa scales, I would certainly ask my guild for help, and then its really fend for yourself when you party.

Generaly party at higher levels are for boss or dungeon raids.

True. But like I said partying on a heavy spawn site where a mistake can get you quickly overwhelmed and monsters are from blue to red and consistently putting out kills is quite rewarding exp and loot wise. I can tank Woopas and Roopas but not six and seven of them. With a team that isn't an issue. Plus is better to do it with people.

Sidenote it's even more fun in a map where you have to watch your back or you can get ambushed and killed ;)

I think partying gives you some protection, like when you're a mage, your armor sux you'd be constantly freezing or avoiding things and die easily. With partying I think time goes by faster somehow and you kill things faster so heavy spwn maybe better. One thing I really dont like is the loot sharing, good items are most likely going to the better attker, I guess that makes sense but it's unfair for healers.

Two words: Random Loot. Let the luck of the draw decide who gets stuff. Don't think it doesn't suck to grab something good and see another person get it. But it's more then fair that everything is given out randomly so no one can argue about that particular point.
