plat rapier vs ds sword vs war sword

I know there was another thread on this but I want to know a fews specific things (preferably from people who have tested or seen these weapons). Of course there is always the price of plat rapier to consider, but if i heard it was all its cracked up to be I wouldn't mind farming for it.

1. How does +7 platinum rapier compare to +7 ds sword in training and pking

2. How much better is the dmg from a +7 ds sword compared to +7 plat rapier

3. How does dmg of +6 war sword compare to plat rapier and ds sword

I had always heard that platinum rapier was "the best sword ever!" but recently I have heard that +7 ds makes more sense and the higher dmg is better than faster dmg. The +6 war sword i just threw in cuz i've always wanted to know :P Any comments are appreciated.

This is a long-standing debate, many people have offered their insights on it, and I'm sure we'll end up with another good debate here. They're actually great to read :p

Anyways, Dark Steel is definitely stronger in DAMAGE compared to platinum Rapier. If you compare their damage range (10-50, 9-54) you get a pretty obvious answer to which is stronger damage-wise (save for stats). Though, the minimum damage on a Rapier is a bit better.

If you wanted to compare (in a way - again, save for stats as they can change) a Viking Sword's range is 7-35, a Gladius' range is 8-40. Can use a +6/7 of each and see how much damage it actually adds. You get a bit of a feel for it.

Now the thing that is the settler for me, is the speed of a Rapier. It's a LOT faster than your average weapon. You'll get in many more hits compared to a Dark Steel sword.

It's probably all up to A) Money, and B) preferance.

Personally I would use a Rapier. Maybe a strong stat Dark Steel sword is better for the "average" player, but a Platinum Rapier is a treat to use. Strong, fast, solid stats.

As for a War Sword, I have no idea. It would cost an arm and a leg just to +6.

I would say that with the way upgrades work in this game, a +7 DS would out hit a +6 Kaisor, HOWEVER, with the insane mod options available to the Kaisor, up to 10+ STR, and even crit, it would probably make up for its lack in damage.

+7 Rapier VS +7 DS is a toss up, there needs to be conclusive testing done in order to bury this issue.

If I were given the choice of +8ing either a Rapier or DS, I would go for the Rapier.

I have hit with a 7+ Plat Rapier and 7+ Darksteel Sword. They feel about the same, but there is a slight damage increase with the Darksteel. I personally think its a toss up if you can find a good Darksteel (but I may be biased because I use a Darksteel). If I ever get my hands on a Plat Rapier for an extended period of time I will contribute more to this conversation.

I think if there is an edge to a Plat Rapier it has to do with bosses who have a LOT of health where the damage between Rages would help the Plat edge the darksteel. Again, this is just speculation because I've never actually tried it. On Rage->WS->Slam,Slam,Slam I really see no difference in speed since slam is outside of the "speed" aspect of the plat rapier.

This is where for me it gets tricky... unless your fighting a warrior, for the most part you are attacking with rage ws slam slam slam... not usually much regular hitting (maybe 1-3 times in my experience), and when there is a regular attack its usually just one at a time (as ranger and mage will step away) As for boss hunting, it would be very useful for soloing tough bosses but at lvl 35+ you can solo every boss except bigmama, and rangers are much better in a case like waddy.

One thing that I would really like to know (as I am a training addict :P) is how they compare in training. I suppose with a mage and plenty of mobs you use a regular attack between sweeps and it could add significant dmg, but if your soloing/there are not a lot of mobs you usually walk between sweeps in which case extra dmg is better.

There's a reason it is by no means a simple task for one to acquire a Platinum Rapier.

One thing that should be addressed immediately: a +8 Platinum Rapier will outclass any of those other weapons as a whole. Argue little details all you like but that matters not. Theories of Gestalt apply here which state more or less that "something is greater than the sum of its' parts".

As someone who has already pointed out and I will continue to hold true to it here: Faster attacks = quicker crystal regeneration = more uses of skills (as well as damage more frequently).

Ultimately that's what it comes down to. Speed. While those other swords will undoubtedly do more damage when compared attack by attack, Platinum Rapier will do more as a whole. For every 1 attack the others can land, the Rapier can land 2. This in a sense drastically raises one's damage per second, obviously.

More speed = more skill usage = quicker kill. That's the basic mechanic behind a warrior.

No matter which you end up going for, I don't think you can go wrong.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages (price-tag included).

You also have quite a decent sword at the moment, I might add. :p

I decided to go with plat rapier; I just couldn't resist those fast attacks <3 I'll probably spend around 40 mil to get +6 and then work towards +7 slowly. Mindscreams here I come! :P

what i believe is that the speed of the rapier comes into picture as the hits in between slams lets

notice the amount of slam is same, but the duration for ds to deal 4 hits is SAME as rapier that deals 5 hits.

Im not sure, but when a warrior is doing a sweep/rage attack it usually goes like this: rage, sweep, ws, hit, slam slam slam slam slam slam. It is impossible to use ws without that regular hit coming in after it. Perhaps if that hit is faster you could get in an extra slam ^^ When I get my plat rapier I will find out (or just watch a warrior training with one).

Anyway I sold the frost iron bar I had gotten (for a small profit:D) and now have enough to get a +6 ds sword (later to be +7nd) and probably ws iv too depending on the price. I think ill be happier with this.

Illustrated in fact why speed > base damage. In a straight comparison 1 on 1, attack by attack, Darksteel will undoubtedly always win (enchants ignored).

To be honest I would prefer plat rapier to darksteel but the price difference is over 30mil and thats enough for WS IV and a chance or two at +7 darksteel. Maybe some day ill upgrade to pr. :P

I'll work up WSIV and a nice Weap, and once things settle down and I've got money money, I'll work towards a Rapier.

Warrior vs warrior is generally a test of endurance (equips vs stats vs level).

Rage-Ws-Slam-Slam isn't the best combination.I have tried my combination many times, it always worked against warriors of the same level, equips and skills (with ws IV as well). Maybe i will tell you once my combination. Later :o
